TeslaCam Pro Support
Dashcam and Sentry Mode clip viewer for iPhone, iPad and Mac
Need help? Email support@homebrewbytes.com. Tell us your device, iOS or macOS version, the app version, your car's model and software version, and the adapter or hub you're using to connect the USB drive. We usually reply within two business days.
What you need
- iPhone or iPad with iOS / iPadOS 17 or later, or a Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
- The USB drive from your car's glovebox or console (the one with the TeslaCam folder on it), or a copy of that folder.
- An adapter to connect the drive. See below.
Connecting the USB drive
Most Tesla USB drives have a USB‑A plug (the larger, rectangular one). iPhones, iPads and most current Macs only have USB‑C ports, so you'll need one of these:
- A USB‑A to USB‑C adapter (a small "USB‑A female to USB‑C male" adapter). Plug the drive into the adapter, then the adapter into your device.
- A USB‑C hub with a USB‑A port. A hub with its own power input helps if the drive isn't recognised or disconnects, since some drives draw more power than an iPhone provides.
Other setups:
- iPhone or iPad with a Lightning port: use Apple's Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter (with power connected) or the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter.
- Mac with a USB‑A port: plug the drive in directly.
- Drive with a USB‑C plug: plug it in directly.
When the drive is connected it appears in the Files app (iPhone and iPad) or in the Finder sidebar (Mac). If it doesn't, try a different adapter or a powered hub, and make sure the drive is formatted exFAT or FAT32, which is how Tesla sets it up.
Getting started
- Connect the drive as described above.
- Open TeslaCam Pro and tap or click Choose Drive.
- Select the drive itself, or the TeslaCam folder on it. You can also pick a single event folder inside SavedClips or SentryClips.
- Your Sentry, Saved and Recent clips appear, grouped by day. Open one to play every camera in sync.
The app remembers the folder you chose, so next time it opens straight to your clips while the drive is connected. To use a different drive, tap the drive icon at the top right, or remove the current one in Settings (the gear icon).
Without the drive: copy the TeslaCam folder to your device first. On iPhone or iPad, put it in Files › On My iPhone (or On My iPad) › TeslaCam Pro and the app finds it automatically. On a Mac, copy it anywhere and choose it with Choose Drive.
TeslaCam Pro only reads the drive. It never changes, moves or deletes your car's footage.
Using the app
- Enlarge a camera: tap it. Tap again to return to all cameras.
- Jump to the moment the car saved the clip: tap Jump to event.
- Frame by frame: use the step buttons either side of Play. The speed menu plays from ¼× to 4×.
- Show or hide the speed and Autopilot overlay: the gauge button at the top, or Settings. Change mph / km/h in Settings.
- Route map, snapshots, export and incident report: the ⋯ menu at the top of a clip.
Common questions
Why don't I see speed or Autopilot data? The car started recording this data in its dashcam clips with Tesla software update 2025.20. Clips recorded on older software, and sometimes the first clip of a saved event, don't contain it. The video still plays normally.
My clips don't appear. Make sure you selected the drive or its TeslaCam folder (not a folder
above it on another drive), and that the files still have the names the car gave them, such as
2026-10-25_02-34-37-front.mp4. Empty clips that the car left behind when recording was interrupted are
skipped.
Which cars work? Dashcam and Sentry Mode footage from Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X, including cars with the newer six-camera layout (pillar cameras).
Playback stutters with all six cameras. Decoding six videos at once is demanding on older devices. Enlarge one camera, or copy the footage to your device first; reading from a slow USB drive can also cause pauses.
What does the $9.99 purchase include? Watching footage, synced cameras, overlays and maps are free. The one-time TeslaCam Pro purchase unlocks exporting video, saving to Photos, multi-camera snapshots and the incident report PDF. It isn't a subscription.
How do I restore my purchase? Open Settings (the gear icon) › TeslaCam Pro and tap Restore Purchase. The purchase is tied to your Apple Account and works on your iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Where do exported videos go? After exporting, choose Save to Photos or Share (AirDrop, Mail, Messages, Files and other apps). The app asks for permission to add to Photos the first time; it can only add, not see your library.
What is the file fingerprint in the incident report? It's a SHA-256 checksum of each original clip. Anyone with a copy of the footage can compute the same checksum to confirm the file is identical and hasn't been edited.
Is this an official Tesla app? No. TeslaCam Pro is an independent app by HomebrewBytes LLC and isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Tesla, Inc. "TeslaCam" is the name of the folder the car writes its footage to.
Privacy
TeslaCam Pro doesn't collect your data, and your footage stays on your device. Read the full privacy policy.
